My Theme and Compiz Fusion

Wondering how you can get the pretty desktop you see in all my screenshots? Here is how I assemblede this fresh, blue theme.

  1. Install Compiz-Fusion
  2. Go to theme settings and set the theme to "Glossy"
  3. Download and install this icon theme
  4. Download this wallpaper
  5. Install Avant Window Navigator
  6. Delete the bottom panel. configure awn how you like, I added the trashbar applet, workspaces applet, and changed the colors to match the blue theme a bit.
  7. Download this image
  8. Right click on the top panel and select properties. Go to the background tab and select background image and select the image above.
  9. Profit!

Hey Mike,
Tried your cool looks. They were really awesome, just like the OS itself. However, I have lots of problems with the audio!

I have been using Ubuntu 7.04 from quite some time, but am facing certain problems.

1) Audio: I have an AMD X2 with Asus Motherboard and on-board Nvidia chipset. The audio is just not fine. A high frequency tone is heard every time I play a sound, even at the Ubuntu startup. I tried downloading the latest Alsa and the Alsa for Nforce, both of which served no purpose. That apart, my Alsamixer crashes pretty often!

2) Beryl: I have problems with the multiple desktops on Beryl. It shows the other desktops as black screens, i.e. they are not recognised.

3) Wine: Wine just doesn't seem to work, no matter what I do!

Any Solutions?

what is the problem with wine? A good test for that would be to run these commands

sudo apt-get install wine

-That installs wine, just to be sure

wget http://mpgarate.googlepages.com/ski32.exe

-that downloads the classic game ski free for windows

wine ski32.exe

I don't know too much about troubleshooting sound, or beryl. I don't use bery; I use compiz-fusion. I would suggest posting both of those problems in ubuntuforums.org.

hey mike, I was rather curious as to what video capture program you used to make the video. I have yet to find one that works as well as the one you used, [vnc based capture?]

-cheers
